Club History
Teignbridge Canoe Club was formed in 1984 at Teignmouth, South Devon. We currently number over 100 members with a club house, changing-rooms and
showers situated on the sea-front.
We are active in most fields of recreational kayaking and canoeing. Members
partake in surf, white-water, open canoeing, touring and sea canoeing.
We are able to instruct a wide range of ages and abilities to help paddlers
improve their skills. Our regular Wednesday night training sessions at Teignmouth
during the summer months are a great place to learn, whatever your skill level.
During the winter months we hold pool sessions at Dawlish Leisure Centre for member
to practice their skills or play a game of polo.
We are keen to introduce novice paddlers to both white water rivers and surf,
and hold special events to make sure that beginners learn the basics in a safe
environment before venturing onto more challenging waves and rivers.
We are very lucky to be close to the surf beaches of the South West. We sometimes
get some waves on our doorstep at Teignmouth.
The River Dart is known throughout Britain as a great white water boating venue.
We make use of all reaches of the river when the water levels are appropriate, from
the mellow lower sections to the more challenging Dartmeet section. There are also
many other rivers in the South West to explore.
Teignbridge Canoe Club is very much a social club as well as a canoe club. There are
weekends away to events, rivers or beaches, and these are great opportunities to get
to know everyone.
